I’m Ow, a recording engineer / producer / mixer based in Staffordshire, West Midlands. I work out of my private studio, Loud Noises Production, which is 30 minutes north of Birmingham.

I’ve been producing music since the early 2000s, starting out as a guitarist recording demos for myself and local bands, before becoming obsessed with how records are made. That obsession led to my first studio job… and the rest is history!

Since then, I’ve helped hundreds of artists craft and develop their sound in the studio, working extensively with rock, metal, hardcore, punk, emo, alt and indie bands (with the occasional pop and hip-hop record on the side).

I moved into my first studio space, Loud Noises Production V.1, back in 2009. From there, I’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazing people across a range of studios and setups, learning from every session (and each challenge along the way).

Why write a blog now?

Because I love talking about music, production and studio life. I’ve learned a lot over the years and I want to share it.

So instead of threatening to start a blog… here I am actually doing it and holding myself accountable.

What this blog isn’t

This blog isn’t going to be another “how to mix” page from someone trying to be a music influencer, with little to no real-world experience of working with bands or even stepping foot in a recording studio.

Everything I post here will be my own thoughts and opinions, based on years of running sessions, working with artists, and lessons learned in the studio. Hopefully the content is interesting, useful and helps people get better results and make some killer records.

It may even spark a few conversations too, I’d love to hear how other people approach recording and music production. So feel free to reach out if there’s anything you’d like to chat about.

What to expect from this blog?

This blog will hopefully be a mix of:

  • Recording tips to help artists get the most out of their sessions
  • Music production discussions
  • The odd gear review (honest opinions, no hype)
  • General studio musings and behind the scenes stuff
  • Maybe some free downloads (drum samples, IRs, profiles / captures etc.)

I hope over time this becomes a super useful resource for bands and people working in music / music production.

If you have any suggestions for things you’d like to see covered, feel free to drop me an email.

And if you’re a band or artist looking for production, recording or mixing get in touch. I’d love to hear what you’re working on.
